Hockey Wars.

Wednesday night at 11 pm, my 7 year old stuck his head into the living room and asked, "Are the hockey wars over yet?"

Sadly, no.

On twitter this morning I expressed my incredulity at a photo taken by Rich Lam during the Riots@Threeandholding suggested it be captioned "Crushing hockey defeat makes me so horny."

@NotSoSage offered this:

This is mine:

Ew. I hope these two are up to date on their shots. I don't know how a city where it rains 90% of the time can be so filthy, but Vancouver's downtown is dirty. When I'm in Vancouver, I don't even like to wear sandals. Much less dry hump in the middle of the street.

"This is why you don't let me watch hockey, isn't it?" asked the 9 year old this morning while I watched the news coverage.

"Hell, yes." was my honest reply.

Two more pithy comments from twitter:

  1. I made this comment: "Love how Boston fans are all wide-eyed over Vancouver riots. "We'd NEVER do THAT!" #suuuuuuuuuurrrre"

If the tables had been turned, I'm pretty certain we would have had a similar situation.

And, though I question lying in the street when amorous, that is a gorgeous shot---love the light. Ahhhh to be young and not care that my skirt is hiked up to here. . .

  2. I was thinking the same thing about the skirt - oh dear god if a photo of me turned up somewhere from that angle oh my goodness...

Do you watch Jon Stewart? I know you don't do satellite any more...there was a pretty funny segment the other night about Canada and oil. But maybe it wasn't funny in Canada, I was curious about that.

  3. Get a room!! I would say the shot was staged, right?!

Lordy, it is so insane that that is what prompts rioting in Canada...not the lack of mail or an airline on strike.

I missed Jon Stewart that night..I will have a look though you made me curious. Last night's Sarah Palin bit had me laughing.

  4. Love what you've done with this. I mailed someone a book that is now stuck somewhere in the postal system and I admit it kind of makes me want to go medieval on someone's ass. Pretty sure I'd avoid showing my ass in the process, though.

Did you see this? THAT'S MY BOY.

  6. At least she had the good sense to wear underwear...

  7. @Janet -- Indeed. I wonder if before she left the house, Alex Thomas' mother said, "Remember to wear clean underwear in case you have an accident and have to go to the hospital. Or you want to get it on with your Australian lover in the middle of a riot."

Oh, moms. They are so full of practical wisdom.

  8. In all the articles I've read about the rioting, no one seems to mention that this is exactly what happened the LAST time Vancouver lost the Stanley Cup final - and it was just as embarrassing then.

  9. @Bea -- I have seen references, but mostly in the context of analyzing the police response then and now. I found this article fascinating: Vancouver not typical sports riot, sociologist says - Canada - CBC News -- both post-hockey riots in Vancouver are atypical.

  10. OK did you see the story on the National last night...the footage of them being knocked down? They are apparently moving to Australia within a week. Interesting story for sure!

  11. I read their response in the paper. I still call BS. So many people found this image romantic. I did not. Even if I was knocked down in a riot, even if I was panicking, I'm still confident that being groped by my man with my skirt hitched up on the street wouldn't be the way I would choose to proceed.
